Getting into Gaming

I’ve been a gamer since I was 8 years old, but it wasn’t until I was 15 that I got into competitive gaming.  When I was growing up, I found myself spending countless hours playing any games I could find either at my cousin’s house or at a friend’s house.  I didn’t own any systems up till my parents finally agreed to buy me an N64, Playstation One & a GameBoy Colour when they were released.  From playing games like Super Mario World, Pokémon, Sonic the Hedgehog to sitting there finishing Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time for the third time, gaming was always one of my favourite things to do.   And as of today,  I own 150+ games and have many systems like the Nintendo64, Playstation One and Two, Gameboy Colour, Nintendo DS Lite, PSP, Sega Dreamcast, Xbox and Xbox 360.
My stepfather had a big influence on me when it came to playing different video games.  We would usually find ourselves sitting in front of a computer screen discussing what to do in Starcraft or Risk.  One day, my stepfather asked if I wanted to join him in playing a game he had bought.  So we sat down, put the disc in and the name of the game popped on the screen, Halo.
When Halo 2 finally came out, I was ecstatic.  I decided to give Xbox Live a chance and couldn`t put the game down.

Job – EB Games

From June 2006 to June 2008, I had been working at EB Games in Orillia, Ontario.  My job consisted of keeping myself and others updated on new hot releases titles, selling video games/gaming systems, and discussing games to customers.  In February I was promoted to Assistant Manager (youngest in the district) because of my knowledge and background in video games.

Halo 2 – Halo 3 – Guitar Hero - DDR Achievements

It was 2 years ago in 2006 that I first heard about Major League Gaming (MLG) and how big competitive gaming in North America actually was.  I started going to local tournaments in Toronto to practice Halo 2 and unfortunately I didn`t do as well as I hoped for.  From then on I was motivated and had the drive to keep practicing to become better at the game.  The first MLG event I attended was MLG Chicago in 2007, I wanted to see what an MLG event looked like and how everything was run.  When MLG Toronto was announced, I decided to search for players to team with.  By then, everyone I had spoken to had already formed a team for the event and I thought I was out of luck.  One week prior to the event, a close friend asked to team for Toronto and we ended up making a last minute team with his local friends from his town.  Our team, Flawless Victory (BiiTTERSWEET, xRawKFisT, xdaZ and iProstar, ) made our way to MLG Toronto, not expecting much because our first actual practice as a team was the first day of MLG Toronto.  We found ourselves scrimming with other our other friends.  First round, we won.  And as for the second round, we ended up facing Str8 Rippin, which by no surprise, knocked our team to the Losers Bracket.  We tried to fight our way through the Losers Bracket winning the first series and then advancing to the next round and losing to our own friends who we had been scrimming against all weekend with (Renegade, Sk8Punk, Truls and Gumby), and so we finished Top 32.

Since Halo 3 has been released I have been competing in local tournaments in Toronto and  in my town.  In my area, I have placed 1st for FFA and for 4v4 gaining respect from people in my town as a gamer.
In MLG Toronto I placed 2nd for the Guitar Hero challenge, short of the $5000 prize and I have won many Dance Dance Revolution tournaments usually placing in the Top 3.
