Halifax Day Four

The last day of the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour in Halifax had arrived and the final six were ready to get the contest underway.  Unlike the previous days of the competition, this day would be the true test for the gamers because they would not only be playing for the top spot which earned them a cash prize of $400, but a chance to impress the Pro Team and potentially become the fourth member.

Day 4 began and the six players remaining in the "Search for the Pro" contest were nervous, yet eager to compete for the top ranks.  The 4v4 process consisted of six rounds of three games, making it so that each competitor would be able to play three games with the Pro Team, three games of coaching and twelve games against the team.  The final four would be judged on their communication, teamwork as well as how well they performed in each game (kills, assists, deaths and overall kill/death spread).

The game types were selected as MLG King of the Hill on The Pit, followed by MLG Capture the Flag on Narrows and finally, MLG Capture the Flag on the Pit.  In the first round, Ian MacMullin (Magniris) bravely stepped up and took his spot as the Pro Team's fourth.  Each player rotated roles with one another and had an equal opportunity to show they were capable to play with and against the Pro Team.  Many of the competitors demonstrated both their weaknesses and strengths as a Halo 3 player, and proved to everyone that there was a reason that they were in the final six.  The 4v4 process was long and tiring, but all six competitors gave everything they had to show that they could make it to the top.

After several hours of non-stop halo action, the tournament finally came to a close and G-SpOt, Bo and Alpha XFactor would have to make their final decision on who deserved to be in top four.  With much discussion and deliberation, it was clear that skill was not a factor anymore but that the winner would be chosen by their stats and how well the players played and communicated with the Pro Team.

The Pro Team's decisions for first and second place were unanimous, but the last two places were difficult choices to make.  In the end, third place and fourth place came down to overall stats.  The final decision was made and the top four were announced as follows:

Top 4

Left to Right: Graham Nicksy (DinoGetsMoney), Brennan Maher (InaneGnome), Mike Nauffts (itstykOMG), Ryan Harding (Kiite zZ)

1st Place $400 - DinoGetsMoney
2nd Place $300 - Kiite zZ
3rd Place $200 - InaneGnome
4th Place - itstykOMG

After an intense six rounds of 18 games, Day 4 ended and the winners of Halifax were chosen. Many talented players appeared throughout the week and proved that the East Coast had something to offer.  Overall, the AMP Your Game tour had a successful first week and we cannot wait for it to make its next stop in Montreal, on Thursday, June 19.

Halifax Day Three

The doors opened and everyone gathered into the tent for Day 3 of Halifax’s AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour.  Saturday was certainly a lot different from the last two days and everybody was excited to find out what was on the schedule.  With the “Search for the Pro” contest under way, the top 16 FFA players from Thursday and Friday were ready to fight for their spot in the final six to compete on Sunday where they would be given the opportunity to play with and against the Pro Team.

In the afternoon, the crowd awaited for their new local star and special guest, NHL’s James Sheppard from the Minnesota Wild.  Immediately, a challenge of NHL 08 on the Xbox 360 arouse between Halifax’s own James Sheppard and Pro Gamer, Bo at the Ford Play a Pro Zone.  The pros played through three grueling periods as the crowd stood behind to see who would be the winner.  It was a close game late in the third period, but surely enough, Bo came up short.  With James Sheppard’s real life experience in the NHL, it was too much for Bo to handle and James won with a final score of 4-2.  After the pros competition was over, James stuck around for autographs and allowed anyone from the event to challenge him in a shootout.  Yet, later in the day, Bo and James faced off in Halo 3 where James Sheppard lost 57-0.  For the rest of the day, the local NHL star hung around and enjoyed the rest of his time at the event.

The “Search for the Pro” process began where the top 16 FFA players were placed into random, yet balanced teams of four based on how well they performed in the last two days.  The players went through five intense rounds of MLG 4v4 game types to determine the top six players of the day whom were later selected by the AMP Pro Team.  As the competitors played through the rounds, G-SpOt, Bo and Alpha XFactor stood behind and studied each of the players.  The team took notes and judged every individual on: communication, how “clutch” they are, their kills, assists and deaths, their overall ratio, their movement, timing, power weapon control and overall smarts.

After the top 16 players battled one another in the 4v4, the Pro Team left the room and conversed about who deserved to be in the top six.   After several minutes of discussion, the top six players were decided by the Pro Team, whom all performed well and possessed a variety of skills.  They were:  InaneGnome, DinoGetsMoney, itstykOMG, Magniris, Captain Aubrey and Kiite zZ.

And so, Day 3 of Halifax came to a close and with the top six players moving on to the finals. Sunday would be the last chance to compete and prove to everyone that they are the best of the best.

Halifax Day Two

The day began bright and early for the AMP Pro Team as they left their hotel rooms by 6:00 a.m. and made their way to the Breakfast Television studios.  Despite having to game all day and night on Thursday, the lack of sleep did not stop the team from performing their duties.  Within a few hours, the team left and returned to the AMP tent to continue their “Search for the Pro” process.

Later in the afternoon, the doors of the event opened and Day 2 of Halifax commenced.  As the large crowd entered inside, familiar faces reappeared and throughout the day, many fresh faces quickly filled the gaming arena.  The atmosphere was extraordinary and people from all ages could not get enough of the event and what it had to offer.  The sounds of battle rifle shots, the laughter of the crowd and music from the live DJ roared through the air and the faces of pleased gamers lit up the room.

Amp Your Game – National Gaming Tour Has Begun!

Gaming is only getting bigger and better.  Ever since last year’s Ford MLG Canadian Open in Toronto, gamers from around the nation have been anxiously waiting for another taste of competitive video gaming in Canada.  And so, the AMP Your Game National Tour has made its debut in hopes of bringing gamers together and introducing everyone to a type of gaming that is more than just sitting in your room with a couple of friends.  With official partner Ford MLG Canada on board, the biggest gaming tour in the country will unite casual and competitive gamers into one arena, creating a remarkable gaming experience for all.

With the tour stopping in nine major cities, Ford MLG Canada's community now has their chance to participate and compete in the AMP Your Game Search for the Pro.  Last year, Canada`s own North of 49 emerged onto the pro scene and now team captain Nelson Triana (G-SpOt), along with Leo Vitelli (Alpha XFactor) and Bo Kovacevic (The Bo) are returning to find a fourth player to create the all new AMP Energy Pro Team.  With their busy lives previously hampering their efforts to pursue a pro gaming career, the three players finally have the chance to fully dedicate themselves to competitive gaming.  Thus, the search has begun as the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour hits its first major city in Halifax, Nova Scotia to scope out the skilled players of the Maritimes.

Halifax Day One

Arriving in Halifax, no one knew what to expect of the tour since it was going to be the first time Canada would experience anything of its kind.  In less than two days, the 3,500 square foot tent sprang to life and inside, 80 gaming stations were set up and ready to go.  With all the dedication and time invested into the making this tour happen, the first day was more than one could have hoped for.

Gamers from all over the Maritimes gathered into the tent early in the morning with surprised looks on their faces.  Many of the people that came to observe and participate in the events had never seen anything quite like it.  Everyone was given the opportunity to try out a variety of games such as: Rock Band, Scene It, NHL 08, Call of Duty 4, Singstar and of course, Halo 3.  Gaming systems like Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC consoles were surrounded with people who were all eager to get a little taste of the ultimate gaming experience.  In addition, a live DJ provided music to the players to pump them up and create an up-beat atmosphere.  Refreshments were made available to all visitors, courtesy of AMP, to keep the gamers quenched and energized.

In the afternoon, people were seen roaming around with faces lit up with awe and excitement.  Gamers could not believe how many games were available to try!  They were also excited to discover there was system-link Halo 3 matches.  Throughout the day, more people continued to show up and join in the gaming spirit.

Later in the evening, the “Search for the Pro” Free-For-All set into motion with competitive gamers ready to prove themselves as the best out in the east.  All players were required to play under MLG rules and battle it out for top ranks.  As the games were in progress, the AMP Energy Pro Team scoured the arena in search of any players whose skills and strategies particularly stood out, which could possibly make a great addition to their team.

A lot of talented players emerged during the FFA rounds and showed everyone, including the AMP Team, that they were there to play and give everything they’ve got to make it to the top.  In the first round, competitor InaneGnome dominated the arena, finishing with 83 kills (the most of the day), followed by DinoGetsMoney’s 73 kills as well as Kiite zZ’s 70 kills.

In the end, top players like InaneGnome, DinoGetsMoney, Kiite zZ, and Magniris reigned over the rest and guaranteed their place for Saturday’s 4v4 play where the AMP Pro Team will then decide who moves on in the tournament.

The tent was flooded with excited gamers all day and night.  By the end of the day, everyone was very pleased to have got the chance to visit the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour.   So much has happened in such a short period of time, yet Day 2 of Halifax will sure to be full of fresh faces and exciting competitions, just waiting for the experience.
