Montreal Day Four- Top Four Players Conquer Montreal

After seemingly no time at all, Day 4 of Montreal had finally come around and the six finalists of the “Search for the Pro” contest arrived bright and early to get warmed up and ready for the long day that lay in store for them.  Eager and prepared to play, the six competitors moved to the tournament arena after the warm up where they were sorted and placed into their positions for Round 1.  First to take the hot seat and play with the Pro Team was e minor. They would be squaring off against the amateur team, consisting of Afroman, Darkkard, Nyko and Chansaw with BKJ as coach.

against the Pro Team and E Minor.

Throughout the day, each competitor rotated roles so that everyone played three games with the Pro Team, 12 games on the amateur team, and three games of coaching the amateur team.  For a lot of the competitors, coaching was a new experience.  Not only did the player have to be able to communicate with every member on the team, but they had to be constantly moving, able to locate and inform the team where opposing players were, keep tabs on power ups and power weapon spawns, all while keeping the team’s morale high.

For the next six hours, tired and strained voices echoed through the tent.  From moans of frustration, to the squeals of laughter from Nyko’s amazing stick from man cannon in Narrows CTF, there was never silence in the room.  Everyone did their best to impress the pro team and prove that they had the skill and teamwork it took to be an exceptional Halo 3 player.  With $400 and top ranks on the line, there was no doubt that all players gave it their all and were determined to show that they were the best.

With a couple of bathroom breaks and entertainment from competitor and magician, Darkkard, the “Search for the Pro contest: Montreal edition” finally came to an end and the top four had to be chosen.  G-SpOt, The Bo and Alpha XFactor made their way into the V.I.P lounge stat sheets in hand.  The six finalists patiently waited outside as the Pro Team reviewed everyone’s statistics from kills, assists, deaths, K/D ratio, king of the hill and oddball time, wins and losses all the while considering how well each player meshed with the team.  Unlike in Halifax, the Pro Team was in a predicament and struggled with how to rank the top four.

After an hour of deliberation and discussion, the Pro Team left the V.I.P. lounge and made their way to the finalists.  The placing for the top four were very difficult choices to make, but the top four of Montreal were announced as follows:

3rd Place $200 - Chansaw
4th Place $100 – Afroman

After six hours of non-stop halo action, the final day of Montreal ended and the top four finalists of the “Search for the Pro” contest were selected.  Thus, with its Montreal stop completed, it was time for the “AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour” to journey towards its third stop, located in the ‘heart of Canada’: Ottawa, Ontario.

Montreal Day Three - Time to Shine

With Montreal’s St.Laurent Festival bringing in hundreds of people out of their homes and into the sunny streets, the “AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour” tent was again crowded with festival goers from day to night.  Tournaments in Singstar, Scene It and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 kept many gamers occupied and entertained throughout the day, but most importantly, the long process of the “Search for the Pro” 4v4 would begin and 16 competitors would be narrowed down to the final six.

G-SpOt, The Bo and Alpha XFactor wasted no time in getting the auditions started.  With their evaluation sheets in hand, the team took their positions behind the players and prepared themselves to assess the competitor’s individual skills in areas such as communication, map and weapon control and overall performance.  Every player was given the opportunity to work with new teammates after every round and adapt to playing with gamers of different skill levels, which also allowed their judges to assess their strengths and weaknesses in team play.

The 16 players sat down and began their long day of 4v4 MLG game-types.  With non-stop Halo 3 action going on all day, the Pro Team observed the players one by one and wrote down their thoughts and ratings on specific individual and teamwork skills the players themselves may or may not have seen.  After many hours of yelling callouts and concentrating on bringing out the best of their abilities, the final six for Sunday’s final 4v4 challenge were chosen.

G-SpOt, The Bo and Alpha XFactor gathered into the V.I.P. lounge and reviewed every player’s stats and notes.  After much discussion, the Pro Team came to a final decision and Saturday’s 4v4 came to a close.  The choices were tough to make because every player played their hearts out, but in the end, the best six players of Montreal were selected and proved to everyone as well as the Pro Team that they were there for one reason: to be the best.

Montreal Day Two - Last Chance

The rain continued to pour and the wind kept blowing, but the weather did not seem to stop anyone from enjoying their gaming time in the “AMP Your Game” tent.  Located in the middle of Montreal’s St-Laurent Street Festival, onlookers made their way inside and the venue was quickly enveloped with eager gamers, of both the casual and serious variety, ready to AMP up their game.  With the “Search for the Pro” contest beginning its second day of the Free For All competition, new faces and talent would surely make an appearance. The top eight from Day 2 of the FFA would get their chance to shine in Saturday’s 4v4 play.

While people roamed the event playing games like Rock Band, Singstar, and Ninja Gaiden, gamers in the “Search for the Pro” arena took advantage of the open play timeslots for Halo 3.  Whether playing for fun or practicing for the FFA that would take place later in the evening, the stations were constantly filled with competitive, high-spirited gamers ready for some “friendly” Halo 3 matches.

Thus, Day 2’s Free For All competition was set in motion.  With the Pro Team eyeing the potentials from behind, new players were ready to prove that they had the skill and drive to dominate over their competitors.  After completing several intense 15-minute FFA rounds, the top four of the winners bracket emerged and assured their place to compete in the 4v4.  Killer Coconut powered his way through the winners round, barely securing first place, with 54 kills.  Rounding out the final round were Darkkard (53 kills), flame shadow (49 kills) and missile man (48 kills).

Montreal Day One - Allons-y!

Less than a day after the top four had been chosen from Halifax, the large white tent vanished as quickly as it appeared.  The echoes of excited gamers waiting for a taste of the ultimate gaming experience returned to silence once more.  Week 1 of the tour was a great success, but it was only the beginning.  Eight major cities in Canada are still awaiting the arrival of the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour in their area. Many more gamers eagerly anticipate their own selection as one of the best four players of the “Search for the Pro” contest.  So, with the inaugural week completed, it was time to leave Halifax, Nova Scotia and depart for the second stop of the tour, located in the beautiful city of Montreal, Quebec.

With a couple days for everyone to rest and regain some sleep, the AMP Crew and Pro Team were excited to get the show back on the road.  After wandering around the city for two days, it was about midnight on Wednesday that the AMP Crew were at it again, setting up the tent for a second time.  In just twelve hours, the white tent manifested itself once more, this time for Day 1 of Montreal! The event began the following morning at noon.

As rain poured down from the sky and the wind billowed against the tent walls, people gathered inside with almost a child-like curiosity to see what “AMP Your Game” was all about.  As was the case in Halifax, looks of awe and excitement pervaded the room as gamers from all ages surrounded the gaming stations to have their turn to play.  Throughout the day, more and more people from the streets came and entertained themselves with the variety of games that the gaming tour provided.

After DinoGetsMoney, Kiite zZ, InaneGnome and itstykOMG dominated the Halifax event and emerged as the top four finalists in the East, it was time for Montreal to show what they had.  Day 1 of the Free For All competition began and many star players made their presence known throughout the day. However, the most surprising player to come out on top was Afroman also known as Marlon Goodman of Ajax, Ontario.
