Ottawa Day Four

Bright and early, Atta Boy, iLL WiD iT, Renegade, Yoshhh, Nish, and iD iNSaNiTy gathered into the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour tent for a little warm up before the final showdown.  Alpha XFactor and G-SpOt opened a small challenge for the morning, and the final six accepted the 2v2 competition against the two pros.  When noon struck, it was time for the final competition to begin and Leo, Nelson and the final six players finished their friendly warm up and got into their positions.

The Sunday competition begins and the amateur team is ready to go.

First to take the spot of the Pro Team’s fourth was Atta Boy.  On the opposite side, the rest of the players sat down in their seats ready to start the competition with Renegade as their coach.  For the next six rounds, the competitors were tested under three game types: Capture the Flag on Narrows, King of the Hill on Construct and Capture the Flag on The Pit.  Whether playing as the Pro Team’s fourth, playing against the team or being a coach, all the players were equally marked on communication, how well they meshed as a fourth and overall stats.  After enduring a long, yet crucial day of the “Search for the Pro” search, the final six players were anxious to hear who made it to the top for the Ottawa event.

The Pro Team and final six players endure a long day of Halo 3.

After playing for six hours straight, the Pro Team left the gaming stations and headed to the VIP lounge to discuss the winners of the day.  With much deliberation and reviewing of the final six players’ stats, the Pro Team came to a decision and announced to everyone the top competitors of Ottawa.  The final four were:

Final Four of Ottawa

1st Place $400 – iLL WiD iT
2nd Place $300 - Yoshhh
3rd Place $200 – iD iNSaNiTy
4th Place $100 – Renegade

And so, winners ill wid it, Yoshhh, iD iNSaNiTy and Renegade join the other eight from Halifax and Montreal in the “Search for the Pro” contest.  With the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour completing their stop at the nation’s capital, Ottawa, it is time to head back “home” to Toronto, Ontario.

Ottawa Day Three

With great weather on the Amp Your Game National Gaming Tour’s side, eager and excited gamers stood outside and waited for another day to begin.  At exactly noon, the tent flaps were raised and the gamers flooded into ‘the arena’.

Rippsik (Joe) and G-SpOt (Nelson) switch it up and play a little 1v1 Halo.

Sixteen familiar faces from the last two days sat down in their position at the Halo 3 gaming stations.  The Pro Team got their evaluation sheets ready and began the long process of individually assessing how well a player exhibited their Halo 3 skills.  It was a long, yet crucial day for the “Search for the Pro” competitors because not only were the 16 players all trying to prove to the Pros that they had what it took to be the very best, but they also had to deal with the knowledge that 10 of them were going home empty-handed at the end of the day. Only six competitors would be moving on from Ottawa.

The Bo watches over Saturday’s 4v4 players.

Even though the gamers were put under intense pressure and were forced to adapt to working with strangers, it did not stop anyone from letting their thunderous voices boom through the air.  With three rounds of three games each, and one round of five games, the day seemed as though it was never going to end.  Finally, when all four rounds were finished, the Pro Team left the competition area and commenced their long discussion.

The final six that continue on to compete on Sunday’s showdown are announced.

So, after reviewing notes and scores, the final six were chosen and were inched closer to winning Ottawa’s “Search for the Pro” contest.  Everyone was nervous and restless while the Pro Team was about to announce the finalists, but iD iNSaNiTy, competitor from the Montreal AMP event, felt more than just that.  In Montreal, he was just shy of making the top six and with his second chance at the “Search for the Pro” contest, the pressure was on to make it to the finals.

The finalists were announced and the top six players to advance in the final part of the competition were:

Top Six Finalists
(No Specific Order)

1.    Renegade
2.    Nish
3.    Yoshhh
4.    iD iNSaNiTy
5.    Atta Boy
6.    ILL WID IT

Ottawa Day Two

The sun was shining bright, but many gamers were feeling a different kind of heat as the final day to advance in the Ottawa edition of the “Search for the Pro” 4v4 competition had arrived.  Many more hopefuls entered into the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour tent for their last chance to prove they had the skills and smarts of a great Halo 3 player.  For the entire day, the tent boomed with raucous shouts and laughter.  Attendance grew and grew as everyone walked into the gaming area for a little shade and a high quality gaming experience.

A couple of special guests also made their appearance and joined in the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour ultimate gaming experience courtesy of Ford Major League Gaming Canada.  NHL superstars Nick Foligno and Jesse Winchester from the Ottawa Senators got a little taste of a different kind of competitive gaming when pro Bo Kovacevic challenged Nick Foligno at NHL 2008 on the Xbox 360.  After losing his NHL 08 match to James Sheppard earlier in Halifax, Bo thought it was time to even the score against another NHL player. Unfortunately for Bo, Foligno’s real life NHL experience helped him prevail in game. Unlike in Halifax, the competition was not even close as Nick Foligno showed that competitive gaming was not a foreign concept to him.  So once again, Bo came up short. Better luck next time!

After dominating Bo in NHL 08, Nick Foligno stuck around and opened up a 1v1 shootout competition.  Many gamers from all ages rose up to the challenge and enjoyed a friendly match against a local star. For the rest of the night, Nick Foligno and Jesse Winchester signed autographs, greeted fans and enjoyed the rest of the gaming experience at the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour

Last hopeful gamers get their chance to make the top eight for Friday.

Of course, as these side stories were occurring, there was still the main even to be partaken in. The final Free-For-All competition allowed the last few hopefuls to make their name known.  After a long day of slaying, and battling for top ranks, the final eight of the FFA contest snagged their spots in Saturday’s 4v4 play.  In the winners round, Yoshhh, Bloc, KGill025 and Nish reigned over the rest of the competitors.  The final eight for Friday’s FFA were:

Top Eight from Friday’s FFA

Winners Round Finalists
Losers Round Finalists
 YoshhCrusher97
 Bloc Death on Foot
 KGill025Vigilante
 Nish Sunndogg

With the top 16 players from Thursday and Friday advancing to the Saturday’s 4v4, Ottawa’s Free-For-All competition came to a close.  Now it is time for the players to show the Pro Team what makes them stand out and why they deserve to be one of the Pros.

Ottawa Day One

With another successful week behind them, it was time for the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour to make its third stop at the nation’s capital – Ottawa, Ontario.  So far, eight players have proved that their talent and skill was enough to earn a spot in the “Search for the Pro” contest, but another 24 Halo 3 players across Canada are still waiting for their turn to shine. Due to the short distance between Montreal and Ottawa, it was time for the team and crew to use the extra time to get some rest in preparation for another long week ahead.  With a couple days to get rejuvenated and relaxed, everyone headed out to lounge around and see the sights in Ottawa.  Whether it was to see a movie, go mall shopping, or have a nice dinner at a restaurant, it was a great chance to stop and take a breather.  However, soon enough it was again time to get back to work and get the AMP Your Game Tour ready for another spectacular event.

Gamers gather inside the tent bright and early on Thursday morning.

By Wednesday afternoon the tent was up and ready to go once again.  Bright and early on Thursday morning, a line began to assemble and grow at a steady pace as the AMP staff and eager gamers counted down the opening of Ottawa’s AMP Your Game stop.  Right at noon, the doors to the tent opened and gamers flooded inside, heading in all different directions to check out what was available to play.  The Halo 3 stations quickly filled as the day went on, and with open Halo 3 play ending, it was time for the “Search for the Pro” competition to kick off Day 1 with a Free-For-All battle.

Many hopefuls get started on Thursday’s FFA.

After warming up for a few hours, the players took their seats, configured their settings and were ready to get the contest underway.  It was a surprise for all when former Montreal contestant, iD iNSaNiTy made his second appearance at the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour in Ottawa’s FFA competition.  In Montreal, iD iNSaNiTy had made it through the FFA, and advanced to Saturday’s 4v4 play where he was judged on his skill and teamwork ability.  Unfortunately, shy of the top six, iD iNSaNiTy did not continue in Montreal’s finals on Sunday.  So, after the hassle of taking a bus and finding his way to the AMP Your Game tent, he was back and ready to prove to everyone and the Pro Team that he had what it takes to be the best.
