Toronto Day Four

At last, the fourth and final day of Toronto had arrived.  The sun was shining bright once again and the crowd of gamers gathered inside of the tent to enjoy their last day of gaming at Toronto’s AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour.  As more and more people overflowed the tent, six hopefuls of the “Search for the Pro” contest sat at the Halo 3 gaming stations to practice and prepare themselves for the day.  With the pressure to perform well and make it into the top four, the final competitors knew that the day was not going to be easy.

Final six and the Pro Team endure their six hours straight of Halo 3.

After eliminating player after player in Saturday’s 4v4 portion of the “Search for the Pro” contest, the final six best of Toronto had been chosen.  The final showdown was long and tiresome but none of the six competitors remaining in the contest gave less than 100 per cent.  First to bravely step into the Pro Team’s fourth position was Beezer.  On the opposing side, amateur team players Clipse, Arrow, Carnage, Mems with Furien as coach waited for long day of Halo 3 to begin.

The first game-type was Capture the Flag on Narrows, followed by King of the Hill on Construct and finally, Oddball on Guardian.  For six rounds, thunderous voices boomed through the air as Furien, Clipse, Arrow, Carnage, Mems and Beezer sat in their seats, tightly clenching their controllers, trying to perform to the best of their abilities and let their skills speak for themselves.  All of the competitors surely showed to everyone, especially the Pro Team what they were all about.  After playing for six hours straight, it was time for the Pro Team to decide its top four from Toronto.

Ando so, G-SpOt, Alpha XFactor and The Bo left the gaming station for a short discussion as well as to review of every player’s stats for the day.  After evaluating every player’s total kills and deaths, K/D Ratio, ball and hill time, wins and losses as well as how well they meshed with the team, the final four of Toronto had been chosen.

Overall, Toronto’s AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour was a huge hit.  With the biggest turnout so far to date, Toronto without a doubt proved that there are a lot of talented competitive gamers out there with some serious skills.  Finally, it is off to the fifth stop in Winnipeg, Manitoba where many more gamers and “Search for the Pro” hopefuls wait for the gaming tour to arrive in their backyard.

Toronto Day Three

It was another hot, sunny day in Toronto as the fans inside the tent were set to maximum level, hoping to cool down the crowd of bodies flooded inside of the tent.  With only two days left of Toronto event, many more casual and serious gamers made their way into the gaming area in hopes to take a little bit of the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour’s ultimate gaming experience with them.  From noontime until after dusk, people inside were in high spirits from all of the gaming action they were getting.

Gamers from all ages flood into the tent.

The heat was on for the “Search for the Pro” contest.  The players from Thursday and Friday’s Free-For-All competition returned to the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour tent, ready for a long, tiring day of non-stop Halo 3 action.  With only a couple of hours to practice in the Halo 3 open play, it was not too long until Saturday’s 4v4 began.  The Pros specified where the players would sit, making sure that everyone had the opportunity to work and adapt to playing with complete strangers.

So the competition began and immediately strained voices and the sounds of battle rifle shots rang through the air.  At each station were G-SpOt, Alpha XFactor and The Bo keeping an eye out for any exceptional players with the skill, teamwork and communication necessary to take their team to the next level.  Slowly the numbers started to fall as the rounds went on.  The day was long and exhausting as one by one the competitors were eliminated from the “Search for the Pro” contest.  With a huge turnout in Toronto, the competition was rough and many players were out there giving their all.

Saturday 4v4 players facing off.

By the end of the day, the six competitors out of 32 that had advanced in Saturday’s 4v4 were chosen.  After taking notes and recording stats, the final six players emerged as the best in Toronto.  Most unexpectedly, Furien, an old teammate of The Bo, G-SpOt and Alpha XFactor from last year’s MLG 2007 season, dominated the 4v4 and grabbed a placing for the final six of Toronto.

The finalists were announced and the top six players to advance in the final part of the competition were:

Top Six of Toronto
(No Specific Order)

1.    Furien
2.    Carnage
3.    Mems
4.    Beezer
5.    Arrow
6.    Clipse

Thus after three days of intense Halo 3 competition for the “Search for the Pro” contest, the many gamers that had competed were now narrowed down to the final six.  Sunday would be another non-stop day of Halo 3 with the Pro Team, but in the end, the final four of Toronto would emerge and prove to everyone that they are the best.

Toronto Day Two

It was a hot, sunny day in Toronto and another long line started to form bright and early in front of the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour’s doors.  Once again at noon, the tent opened to all of its guests who were ready to get their game on.  Immediately, the players competing in the “Search for the Pro” contest sat down at the Halo 3 gaming stations to warm up for the last Free-For-All of Toronto.  On the other side of the tent were many casual gamers playing games from Rock Band to Call of Duty 4 and even Super Smash Brothers: Brawl. Once again, the invigorating cries and laughter from casual and serious gamers alike echoed throughout the tent.

Courtesy of Ford MLG Canada, a special guest made his appearance at the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour.  Local NHL star, Nik Antropov from the Toronto Maple Leafs had a little taste of what competitive gaming was really like when he faced off against The Bo in a 1v1 battle in Fifa 08 on the Xbox 360.  After having been defeated by NHL players James Sheppard (Minnesota Wild) as well as Nick Foligno (Ottawa Senators), The Bo knew that this time his was his turn to shine and beat Nik Antropov.  It was an intense gaming battle of Fifa 08 between the NHL Maple Leaf and AMP Pro Gamer, but in the end, The Bo dominated the field and finally conquered.  All in all, it was a good competition between the two Pros.  After Bo reigned as champion, Nik Antropov made his way around the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour tent to sign autographs and meet fans and new people.

Meanwhile in the main event, the final Free-For-All competition was underway and many more hopefuls were ready to make their name known.  Most surprisingly, the second female gamer to enter into the “Search for the Pro” competition known as Str8 BS, proved to all the guys that she had skill and had what it takes to keep up with the guys.  After conquering over many of the male gamers in Friday’s Free-For-All, Str8 BS managed to guarantee her spot in the next round for the 4v4 play where she would be representing females in the Halo 3 competition.  Along with Str8 BS, players Kriesgsage (58 kills), Jin Kim (55 kills) and Penjab (50 kills) dominated the gaming arena.

Next round, Saturday’s 4v4 play would surely be a battle of epic proportions.  Being judged individually on skill, communication and teamwork, Saturday’s aspiring pros would be in for a long day because only six players will be chosen out of the many competitors that advanced to Saturday’s 4v4.

Toronto Day One

Finally, it was time to head back to where it all began, in the city of Toronto, Ontario.  With three stops completed, only six major cities across our great nation still wait for their taste of AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour’s ultimate gaming experience.

After the latest Final Four of the “Search for the Pro” competition dominated the Ottawa scene, the tent slowly began to dissipate.  Loud music melted away into the echoes of footsteps and car engines vacating the scene well after dusk. Strained and tired bodies vanished into the night and the gaming consoles were powered down.   All equipment and gaming stations were once again packed up and put away into 18-wheeler truck ready to make its eagerly anticipated appearance in Toronto.  In a matter of a few hours, everyone was back home, eager and thrilled to show Toronto what the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour had in store for them.

After catching up with friends and family for a couple of days, it was back to work and off to the Harbourfront Centre.  By Wednesday night the white tent had been resurrected and the gaming stations and blare of music and games roared to life inside the tent walls.  Open to the Ford MLG Canada community, media and players alike swarmed in and enjoyed fitting a little bit of gaming time into their schedules.  So, Wednesday night ended and the first day of the Toronto event was to begin the following afternoon.

A line-up quickly formed outside of the front doors to the AMP Your Game National Gaming Tour with many curious and enthusiastic gamers to see what the talk was all about.  At noon, the doors opened and the tent began to rapidly fill as more and more people flocked inside.  With free AMP Energy and Pepsi drinks provided to keep the people’s energy peaked, it was time to observe how the first day of the “Search for the Pro” Free-For-All competition would go.
