A Compendium of Halo 3 Tutorials and Strategies
Here’s a rundown of some of the most useful videos that members of the Halo community shared with the public over the past month. Mastering advanced techniques, specific jumps and studying film will give you a competitive advantage in matchmaking and custom games. MLG will be sure to continually update the community on the latest findings to keep you one step ahead of the competition. These videos have all appeared on the site and in the Game Room before today. This article aims to consolidate information to a single place so any interested community member can stay up to date on all the latest.

Basic Halo 3 Jumps

Learn ‘em. Love ‘em. Use ‘em. One of the keys to advancing as a competitive player is to make navigation of the maps second nature. Once the advanced techniques are second nature, teamwork and strategy can be worked on without hindrance. Part of becoming the best possible player involves mastering all of the tools of the trade. Right now most of the new tricks with Halo 3 involve jumping, so that’s a good starting place..

The Poop Jump

Sadly, yes, jumping off equipment has been named the “poop” jump speaking at once of the Halo community’s level of maturity, but also our love of a fun, juvenile joke. Recently discovered, this is sure to open up maps and present all sorts of possibilities. Pipe does an excellent job of putting his tactic to use in this video. From my own experience using the Radar Jammer, as he says, is the easiest way to pull this off. I couldn’t get it to work with the energy drainer.

Halo 3 Hammer Trick

As you can see, it is possible to inflict splash damage with the hammer through walls, around corners, etc. This should make for some epic “blind” kills and give the hammer an added use to compensate for its slow take-out time.

New Halo 3 Jumps

Captain and Shrapnel have blown the doors wide open with this video. All sorts of jumps that no one thought to be possible are now fair game. A lot of these are very difficult to pull off and remind one of overjumping in Halo 2. Like many techniques, though, they will eventually become second nature. Expect some of the more useful jumps (Construct, Guardian, Pit) to shine in competitive play. Move on to the next page to see how to accomplish these awesome jumps…

Slide Jumping Tutorial Video

There you have it. Very similar to Halo 2 but the slides seem even more powerful.

Jumping for Fun Episode #3

Gary_UK takes slide jumping to a whole new level. Some of these are sure to have an impact, especially in matchmaking where all these maps will always be used. Gary treats things that don’t even seem to have ledges as ledges off of which to slide. One thing “Jumping for Fun” teaches us is to be creative. Step outside the box and try things, it might take a few tries, so don’t give up.

Now for the Edge Ghost Jump…

Edge Ghost Jump Tutorial

And here you have that. Many people in the community (myself included) still have trouble pulling off this technique. A more detailed tutorial would be a valuable addition to the tutorials database…

Construct Nade Points

This sniper nade adds a new dynamic to the map. Timing the sniper respawn and using this throw could give a losing team with no top control the advantage they need to re-take the map.

Legend JRG MLG Guardian

JRG takes down Lightking’s undefeated (44-0) GameBattles team in this Guardian Ball matchup. Assuming the role of main slayer, JRG demonstrates a patient control of Sniper Tower and a confident movement around the map. He also puts the needler to use from close range at bottom snipe and demonstrates some excellent sniping (check out his double at the end of the game from Sniper 3). One of the easiest and most effective tools for self-improvement is studying how the pros play.

Guardian Nade Throw

This happens to be an insane stick, but the nade throw itself could prove useful. One wonderful thing about the theater and a greater player population is that little tricks such as this one are found and proliferate within the community at a much faster rate. Great throws, sweet jumps and other glitches are sure to come out at a faster rate than in Halo 2.

Guardian Nade Jump

Who knows if this will ever be put to use in competitive play. If it were possible to get up there without being detected, one could inflict a lot of damage on the opposing team. It’s one to keep in mind and perhaps a possible poop jump?

This is really the tip of the iceberg. As MLG starts to refine its settings and people gravitate towards custom games, pro strategies, setups and little tweaks to give you an advantage are sure to roll in and fill the Game Room. Remember to check back on MLG’s main page and always keep up to date in the Game Room for all of the latest.
